About #1 Debut

A free browser game about building a debut album one song at a time.

You spin real albums, take a single track from each, and stop at twelve. Those picks get scored on quality, flow, singles, artist spread, and peak - then mapped to a projected chart debut. Miss the chart entirely, or land a legendary #1.

No download. No account. Free play whenever you want, or a challenge link when you want to rope a friend into the same album draw. Rules are on how to play; strategy notes are on tips.

Who makes this

I build and run #1 Debut by myself. There is no company behind it, no content team, no publisher, and no relationship with any artist, label, or chart company - just one person adding albums by hand and writing the pipeline that rates them.

I am saying that plainly because it explains this site's strengths and its gaps in the same breath. The catalog is shaped by what I actually listen to and how much time I have to expand it, so it leans toward records I know well and thins out where my own listening does. If something is missing or a rating looks off, tell me directly - it reaches me, not a queue, and I am usually the one who can fix it in an afternoon.

How the ratings are built

Every song carries a rating from 55 to 99. Those numbers are computed, not assigned by feel. The inputs are verified Spotify playcounts, YouTube view counts, and hand-curated chart peaks and RIAA certifications, combined on a calibrated ladder and recomputed from scratch whenever the catalog changes. Six automated audits have to pass before a rating ships, covering things like duplicate track IDs, interludes inheriting a hit's streaming numbers, and ratings drifting out of step with a fresh recompute.

The interesting decisions are the debatable ones. Streams are discounted by how recently a song was released, so a 2024 release is not measured against a 1996 release on raw plays. Album leaders have to earn their ceiling from evidence instead of inheriting it from the album's reputation. I write these up, including the parts I am still arguing with myself about and the bugs I hit along the way, in notes from the rating pipeline.

Editorial standards

What the ratings are not

They are in-game draft values for a game, not a public chart ranking and not a critical verdict. They lean on popularity signals, which means a very popular song can outrank a more celebrated one. Albums and songs are referenced for commentary and play. Cover art and metadata come from public sources, and no audio is hosted or streamed here.

Privacy and money

Your daily streak and best debut stay on your device. There is no account and no sign-up. Full details are in the privacy policy, and the rules of use are in the terms.

The game is free and is funded by optional advertising. Ads never interrupt a run: they appear on editorial content pages (notes, how-to-play, tips, genre guides) and after your score has finished revealing, and the one rewarded ad in the game is an extra album redraw you choose to watch. Per-artist lookup pages are gone. Nothing in the game is paywalled, and no ad is ever required to finish a run.
