Privacy Policy
Effective August 7, 2026. Short version: progress stays in your browser, there is no account, and analytics and ads only run after you allow them through Google's privacy message (or automatically outside regions that require that ask).
Who is responsible
#1 Debut is an independent fan project - no company, no publisher, just one person building it. For privacy questions, including any request about your data, write to contact@number1debut.com or use the contact page.
What is stored on your device
Best debut, games played, sound preference, and your Daily Debut history (the day you last played, your streak, and your most recent daily result) live in localStorage on your device. The game does not send that progress to a server, and it is not tied to any identity. Clearing site data in your browser erases all of it. Google's consent tools may also store your privacy choices in cookies or local storage so the choice sticks across visits.
Analytics, and your choice
We use Google Analytics 4 to count aggregate gameplay and page events - starting a run, finishing a run, sharing a result, daily streak milestones, content page views - so we can see which parts of the site work. It records approximate location (country/region level), device and browser type, referring page, and a randomly generated identifier in cookies.
- In the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland Google's Privacy & Messaging prompt asks before analytics or ads storage is turned on. Decline, and no Google Analytics script, request, or cookie is created for measurement.
- In US states with consumer privacy laws (California, Colorado, and others), a "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" opt-out is available any time through the "Privacy choices" button in the site footer, powered by Google's Privacy & Messaging.
- Elsewhere analytics can start without that prompt, and you can change your mind any time through the "Privacy choices" button in the site footer, which reopens Google's message where available.
- Global Privacy Control is honored: if your browser sends that signal, analytics and ads stay off and no consent prompt is shown.
The legal basis is your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)) where consent is required, and you can withdraw it at any time via "Privacy choices" without affecting anything you have already played. Google Consent Mode v2 keeps analytics and advertising storage denied by default until a choice is made. Google processes this data as our processor and may do so outside your country, including in the United States, under the safeguards in Google's data processing terms. Analytics events are retained no longer than 14 months.
Vercel Web Analytics also counts page views. It is cookieless, collects no cross-site identifier, and produces aggregate traffic counts only.
Advertising
Optional advertising helps keep #1 Debut free. Two kinds may appear:
- Display ads on editorial content pages (notes, how-to-play, tips, genre guides) and on the post-run result screen after your score has finished revealing. They are never shown on legal pages, never during the spin or pick phases of a run, and the game itself is not interrupted by full-screen interstitial ads.
- Rewarded ads only when you choose them - for example an optional extra album redraw after your free redraw is used. Nothing plays unless you opt in, and the reward is granted only after Google confirms the ad was viewed.
Ads are served by Google AdSense. Ad and personalization storage stay denied until you consent through Google's Privacy & Messaging prompt where required. Sensitive ad categories are blocked in the AdSense controls. You can withdraw consent via "Privacy choices".
Advertising cookies and how to opt out
Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalized advertising in either of these ways, at any time and independently of any choice you make here:
- Turn off personalized advertising from Google in Google Ads Settings.
- Opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info/choices, or, in Europe, at youronlinechoices.eu.
Opting out of personalized ads does not remove advertising from the site. It means the ads you see are no longer selected using your browsing history. More detail on how Google handles data for advertising is in Google's advertising technologies notice and how Google uses data from sites that use its services.
Google is currently the only ad network serving on #1 Debut. Google may in turn work with its own certified partners to fill inventory; those vendors are disclosed inside the Privacy & Messaging prompt, where you can review and set your choice for each one, and they are opted out with the links above.
Cookies and similar storage
A short summary of everything this site can put on your device, and why:
| Purpose | Set by | Runs when |
|---|---|---|
| Game progress: best debut, games played, sound preference, Daily Debut streak and history | #1 Debut (localStorage, not a cookie) | Always. Never leaves your device, never sent to a server. |
| Your privacy choice, so you are not asked again every visit | Google Privacy & Messaging | Always. This is what makes a "no" stick. |
| Analytics: aggregate gameplay and page events | Google Analytics 4 | Only after you allow analytics storage. |
| Advertising and frequency capping | Google AdSense and its certified partners | Only after you allow ad storage. |
Clearing site data in your browser erases all of it, including your saved privacy choice, which means you will be asked again on your next visit.
What we do not do
We do not require an account, ask for your name or email to play, sell personal information, use analytics for cross-site advertising profiles we control, or knowingly collect data from children under 13 (under 16 where local law sets a higher age). If you believe a child has provided data, write to us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or a copy of your personal data, object to processing, or withdraw consent. Because most game progress never leaves your device and the rest is pseudonymous analytics or ad traffic, deletion is usually immediate: withdraw consent via Privacy choices, then clear site data in your browser. For anything else, email contact@number1debut.com and we will respond within 30 days. EEA and UK visitors may also complain to their local data protection authority. Residents of California, Colorado, and other US states with opt-out rights may opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information at any time through "Privacy choices" in the footer - we do neither, and we also honor Global Privacy Control.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the effective date above changes. Related rules are in the terms of use.
