Pop in #1 Debut

Pop, R&B, soul, dance. Juiciest ratings in the game. Also the easiest place to build twelve singles by accident.

What you are actually locking

Pop, R&B, soul, dance eras. More songs sit up high here than in Hip-Hop or Rock. That is why I recalibrate genre runs so Pop does not get free #1s. The song ratings you see are still real. The chart projection at the end is what gets translated. Long version: genre parity.

Classic Pop feels like shopping. Expert Pop is mean. Half-remembered titles. Radio ghosts. Album tracks with no video.

Stop drafting twelve singles

People do this constantly and then email me confused. Scoring wants about five or six singles out of twelve. All radio hits misses the balance bonus and can lose to a mixed list with a slightly lower average. The reel will keep offering singles. Saying no to a 90+ because you already have enough A-sides is the whole Pop skill.

Deep cuts still matter. A lot of the eras that win on average win because the album tracks hold. If your first six picks are all obvious singles, start taking album tracks even when Classic shows them a point or two lower. Flow and balance usually pay it back.

How a run usually goes

Doubles hurt less than Hip-Hop. More names. Flow is friendly. The hard part in Expert is your ear lying to you. Something that "sounds big" can be mid. A quiet album track can be carrying serious numbers. That gap is where Pop Expert is won.

Genre is still per era. Someone who started R&B and went full pop radio later might only be here for part of their catalog. Missing from this list does not mean missing from the game. Check artists.

Should you pick it?

Yes if you want the deepest high bench and you can manage singles on purpose. Best place to learn Classic. One of the easiest places to get cocky in Expert. Glance at top tracks and tips before a Daily that feels Pop-heavy.
